Volunteering

We value the role of volunteers and welcome the contribution that enthusiasm and fresh ideas they bring to an organisation.  Over the years we have benefited tremendously and thank all our volunteers, past and present, for their valuable contribution to the work we do at Herefordshire Mind.

However, volunteering with us is a significant commitment;

  • For some roles you need to be able to make a regular commitment to at least four hours per week.
  • For many roles we are looking for some experience and or part qualification and/or an intention to obtain qualifications (many of our volunteers are looking for experience as part of a career path).
  • There are some opportunities to volunteer with us for specific fundraising or "Time to Change" events.
  • Everyone who works for Herefordshire Mind, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity, is bound by professional rule of confidentiality and must not discuss client details outside the service.
  • Volunteers, as with paid staff, are required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, previously CRB) check because some roles may involve contact with vulnerable adults.

Induction and training is given to all volunteers at the start of their time with Herefordshire Mind. Mandatory training, including fire procedures, Health & Safety, First Aid and Mental Health Awareness, also needs to be undertaken.

If you would like to volunteer for Herefordshire Mind please get in touch with us on either 01432 372404 or info@herefordshire-mind.org.uk. In the first instance, we would like to have brief details of your qualifications and experience, together with some indication of what kind of contribution you can offer us.  Please be aware that volunteer recruitment and induction may only be undertaken at fixed times during the year.

Tracy’s Story

Tracy came to Mind a few years ago, wanting to do some volunteering.  She’d been the victim of domestic abuse and, understandably, her mental health had suffered badly, leaving her lacking in confidence and self-esteem. She was an excellent volunteer and was encouraged to undertake some NVQ training in Health & Social Care. Tracy is now a paid member of staff.  She has her NVQ III and is a really good example of how volunteering can lead to training and a permanent job.

Current Volunteering Opportunities:

Project Volunteers:

We are looking for people with an interest in mental health to help with two new projects, which will be delivered around the county. Please contact David on either 01432 372404 or info@herefordshire-mind.org.uk to find out more.  Click here to download a Volunteer Application Form.

Fundraising Volunteers:

Help with fundraising is always welcome and we are always pleased to help volunteers who are prepared to undertake a fundraising event or activity on hour behalf. It could be anything from a sponsored walk or bike ride to a stall at a car boot sale of a pub quiz. Please contact info@herefordshire-mind.org.uk for a discussion or complete a volunteer application form and send to: FAO Volunteering Team, Herefordshire Mind, Miller Court, 31A Ledbury Road, Hereford, HR1 2SZ.
