ACT and IMHA Advocacy services are based at 9 Barroll Street, Hereford, HR1 2LY, off St Owen Street.
ACT Advocacy is a charitable organisation funded by Comic Relief and part of Herefordshire Mind. We work with adults living in Herefordshire who suffer significant mental distress and have an issue that ACT Advocacy can help with. We can support you to access and receive quality services from statutory and voluntary organisations including; Community Mental Health Teams, Social Services, Residential Homes, Mind, Child and Family Services, Charitable Organisations. We can help you with; making complaints, writing letters, preparing for meetings, accompany you to meetings, reviews, tribunals and speaking with you, or on your behalf to professionals.
ACT IMHA Service is a specialist type of advocacy service under the Mental Health Act. Qualifying patients have a statutory right to Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA). People detained under a Section 2, 3, 37/41, 47/49 in Hospital or on Section 117 leave, SCT, Guardianship or conditionally discharged are classed as qualifying patients. we can help you to understand your legal rights in regard to the sections of the Mental Health Act you are subject to.
People are entitled to be in control of their own lives. Sometimes they may find themselves in a position where their ability to exercise choice or represent their own interests is limited. In these circumstances advocates can help ensure that a person's views and needs are heard, respected and acted upon.
